Update: Grade 7-12 program at EDHS Grade 7-12 program at EDHS<p>​Please see below for the content of a letter sent home with all Huronia Centennial families in late October.  <br><br></p><div>Dear Parents/Guardians of Huronia Centennial Elementary School,</div><div><br></div><div>Last night the Elmvale District High School (EDHS)/ Huronia Centennial Elementary School (HCES) Grade 7-12 transition committee met at EDHS. It was a very productive meeting, discussing many topics of interest from the schools and community. EDHS principal Dan MacDonald took the committee through the construction plans and timelines, concluding that current estimates have the construction being completed in early 2019 . The committee also discussed staffing and human resource planning, next steps and communication to the community. </div><div><br></div><div>The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) senior staff, supported by the Grade 7-12 transition team, has decided to delay the implementation of the Grade 7-12 school at EDHS until September 2019. The committee agreed that all stakeholders wanted the transition of Grade 7 and 8 students from HCES to be as smooth and seamless as possible. Members felt that a completed construction project was essential to ensuring a positive transition for our students. </div><div><br></div><div>I would like to thank the committee members for their support. Please bring in any gently used or new items that you feel would be suitable gifts for family members. Some examples include: “like new” picture frames, perfume, jewelry, knickknacks, candles, homemade crafts, decorations, or anything suitable for all members of a family (don’t forget dads). Donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, ribbons, bows, tags, and cards are also very much appreciated. Earth Rangers Presentation Rangers Presentation<p>​<span style="font-family:inherit;background-color:#ffffff;color:#1d2129;font-size:14px;">On Tuesday December 4th we will be welcoming Earth Rangers to our school. Using the extraordinary power of live animals to teach students about the issues facing Canadian wildlife, the goal of this presentation is to educate children about biodiversity and to inspire them to take action by becoming directly involved in helping to protect animals an<span class="text_exposed_show" style="display:inline;font-family:inherit;">d their habitats. Each year, Earth Rangers visits over 800 English and French elementary schools across the country with their conservation message.<br>We are asking students to bring in a loonie or a toonie to donate to Earth Rangers. Donations help support Earth Rangers education programs and their Bring Back the Wild program (the research protection and stewardship of animal habitats in Canada). Pizza Orders Orders <p><span style="color:#000000;font-family:"times new roman";font-size:medium;">Tis the season for ordering pizza! After a successful start to our Thursday pizza days, the time has come for parents to place their orders for January, February and March. Pizza orders can be made using School Cash Online or by completing the paper order form and sending in cash or cheque to the school. Pizza days will continue being on Thursdays at second nutrition break. Orders are due to the office Friday, December 14, 2018 and will not be accepted past that date. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school. The grade 8s thank you for your continued support!</span><br></p>

The idea is that the primary students will be able to purchase one or two Christmas gifts for family members. Band Concert, Silent Auction and Gift Basket Fundraisers Concert, Silent Auction and Gift Basket Fundraisers<p>​<span style="color:#1d2129;font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;">Our administration and office staff are organizing a 50th Anniversary silent auction to be held the night of the Band concert on December 18th at 7:00 pm. The proceeds will go toward end-of-year celebrations. The Band will still be accepting donations that evening as well.</span><br style="color:#1d2129;font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;"><span style="color:#1d2129;font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;">If you have any community connections, and are able to get some donations of items for the auction, we’d appreciate the help! We have some fun ideas to auction off as well, for example Principal for ½ day</span><span class="text_exposed_show" style="display:inline;font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;color:#1d2129;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;">. We are also going to organize three baskets to be auctioned off, and would appreciate any donations for them. Book Fair News! Fair News! <p>​<span style="color:#1d2129;font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;">We are hosting a book fair at the Huronia Centennial library Nov. 21-23. The hours are Wed. Nov. 21-9:00-3:30, Thurs. Nov, 22-9:00-7:00 and Fri. Nov. 23-8:30-10:00. This is a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and support the H.C.E.S. library at the same time. Thank you!</span><br></p>

The featured speaker is an expert in the field, Simon Sinek. He offers some important insights into the issue of technology use in today's society.
